Event to celebrate release of new
Jersey Highlands: Central North Region
Trail Map
 The
Land Conservancy of New Jersey and the
New
York/New Jersey Trail Conference will be co-hosting a
special event to celebrate the release of a new hiking trail map
called Jersey Highlands: Central North Region Trail Map and The Land Conservancy’s
30th Anniversary.
This Map Launch
Party will be held on Thursday, April 28th from 6:00-8:00 pm at
Ramsey Outdoor in Succasunna. There will be a short presentation
at 7pm when the new map will be unveiled. Refreshments will be
served.
The new map set is
the first produced by the Trail Conference in 11 years. The map
set is being sponsored by The Land Conservancy with funds raised
in memory of Marty Donofrio, an avid hiker and long-time
Conservancy supporter who passed away in 2007. This new
two-map set shows marked hiking trails throughout the central
part of the New Jersey Highlands, including parks such as Farny
State Park, Pyramid Mountain, High Mountain Park Preserve,
Allamuchy Mountain State Park, and Mahlon Dickerson Reservation.
Large sections of the Highlands Trail are also featured on the
maps. With a mix of long-distance trails, state and county park
trail networks, and small municipal park trails, these maps can
help you discover the wealth of outdoor opportunities available
in this section of the New Jersey Highlands!
Fifteen years ago The
Land Conservancy of New Jersey, then known as Morris Land
Conservancy, partnered with The New York-New Jersey Trail
Conference to develop a 50 mile system of trails known as the
Farny Highlands Trail Network. The Conservancy has since
preserved thousands of acres in the region that today host new
trails. “We thank the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation for its
early support of this effort and The New York-New Jersey Trail
Conference for printing this map that will make all of this
wonderful open space more accessible to the public,” said
Conservancy President David Epstein. “The Land Conservancy also
salutes the many trails community volunteers who provided
valuable input for the maps and building the trails.”
Ramsey Outdoor is
located at the Roxbury Mall, 281 Route 10 East, Succasunna, New
Jersey. Maps will be available for purchase at the store
beginning on the day of the event.
