About the event
MEVO and The Land Conservancy of New Jersey are jointly organizing a series of cleanups on Split Rock Mountain. This site is culturally significant to the Ramapough Lenape Indian Nation, and The Land Conservancy is in the process of purchasing it to preserve the land permanently for future generations. Unfortunately, this land has been used as an illegal dumping ground for decades, and the cleanup is a big job.
The next cleanup is on Saturday, 9/25 from 9am-2pm. We will meet at the Ramapough Community Center at 189 Stag Hill Road in Mahwah and then carpool to the Split Rock site.
We ask that volunteers park at the baseball field immediately on the left after cresting Stag Hill Road and then walk over to the community center. Bathrooms will be available at the center, but volunteers should bring their own drinking water. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required.
