Earlier this month we hosted our biggest farm-to-table event ever at South Branch Preserve, with 150 friends and partners joining us to celebrate David Epstein's retirement and TLCNJ's plan to preserve another 30,000 acres of land in New Jersey.

The weather was crisp and sunny, and the leaves were just starting to put on their fall colors—perfect weather for hikes around the preserve and the community garden before retiring to the big tent for cocktails and brunch.

The mood was merry but also bittersweet as guests enjoyed a bountiful harvest spread prepared by Nash Reba, with many of the ingredients grown right on site by City Green's skilled farmers. Even the beverages were locally sourced: Joe Fisher from Man Skirt Brewing poured a light, refreshing, pilsner called Highlands Heart, made with grains grown in New Jersey. We are also grateful to Rob Yaskovic for taking photos that captured the day so beautifully.

One after another, David's friends and colleagues took the microphone to tell stories about his contributions to conservation in New Jersey during his 32 years of extraordinary and dedicated service. They ranged from humorous anecdotes about the organization's humble beginnings to expressions of gratitude for the sweeping impact David's work has had on state environmental policy and land that is close to their hearts. The program capped off with a champagne toast and Director of Development Amber Ray presenting David with a personalized, handmade walking stick emblazoned with plants and animals native to New Jersey.

It was a very special day, and one to remember.

We are deeply humbled to occupy the land of the native Munsee Lenape.

The Land Conservancy of New Jersey acknowledges Indigenous Peoples as the traditional stewards of the land, and the enduring relationship that exists between them and their traditional territories. The land on which our headquarters sit is the traditional unceded territory of the Munsee Lenape Nation. We also work to preserve land in the traditional territories of the Lenape Haki-nk (Lenni-Lenape) and the Ramapough Lenape Nation.
