Another NJ farm preserved—and this one is a big win! These 355 acres in Blairstown under the Kittatinny Ridge will remain undeveloped thanks to our work with the SADC and to the dedication and cooperation of property owner Kris Jones.

We have wanted to see this property preserved since we first laid eyes on it. And we were not the first land trust to try. There were challenges and setbacks along the way, but finally we succeeded. We applied to the SADC non-profit program and won a 50% non-profit grant totaling $2,213,100.

Land Preservation VP Sandy Urgo says, “We are grateful to people like Kris Jones, who are conservationists at heart. Kris bought this amazing property that lies directly within the viewshed of the Appalachian Trail, and he absolutely knew that he needed to preserve it. We agreed! The Conservancy put a lot of time into making sure this property would remain undeveloped. We appreciate the SADC State Direct program, which went to bat and took this farm in, and closed it. A huge win for New Jersey and for fans of the Kittatinny Ridge and the Appalachian Trail!”

The first photo is Young’s Pond, taken on the farm, with the cliff and the Appalachian Trail visible in the distance. The second photo was taken on a TLCNJ staff hike from the Appalachian Trail, with the beautiful farm and Young’s Pond below.

This is why we do what we do!

We are deeply humbled to occupy the land of the native Munsee Lenape.

The Land Conservancy of New Jersey acknowledges Indigenous Peoples as the traditional stewards of the land, and the enduring relationship that exists between them and their traditional territories. The land on which our headquarters sit is the traditional unceded territory of the Munsee Lenape Nation. We also work to preserve land in the traditional territories of the Lenape Haki-nk (Lenni-Lenape) and the Ramapough Lenape Nation.
