Planning Fellow: Cassady Turnbach

Kate Munning

We are delighted to welcome Cassady Turnbach as The Land Conservancy's newest planning fellow!

Cassady was born and raised at the Jersey Shore before graduating from the University of Vermont with a BS in community-centered design with a focus on ecological design strategies and community planning. Most recently, Cassady earned a master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies in sustainability from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, contributing to research on sustainability transitions and grassroots rural development initiatives. Beyond planning work and research, he enjoys creative hobbies, rock music, snowboarding, and learning about local ecology.

Cassady says, "I think the way that we use space is crucial to the pursuit of sustainability, not only for supporting healthy and resilient ecosystems, but for affecting the ways that society interacts with nature. I see environmental planning as a great tool to strengthen the connectedness between people and their local environments. Doing this work with TLCNJ feels especially important to me for having an impact in my home state."

We are deeply humbled to occupy the land of the native Munsee Lenape.

The Land Conservancy of New Jersey acknowledges Indigenous Peoples as the traditional stewards of the land, and the enduring relationship that exists between them and their traditional territories. The land on which our headquarters sit is the traditional unceded territory of the Munsee Lenape Nation. We also work to preserve land in the traditional territories of the Lenape Haki-nk (Lenni-Lenape) and the Ramapough Lenape Nation.
